PRO Sports Communications Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Melinda Travis is a sports communications veteran with experience on both sides of the media equation, as a sports journalist and as a public relations strategist. In 2011, Travis launched PRO, a strategic communications firm specializing in crisis management and media training for the sports industry. As CEO, she translates her diverse experience into agency leadership focused on serving the unique needs of each client.
Travis began her career as an in-house reporter and associate radio producer for the NBA Orlando Magic, interviewing players and coaches daily and learning the fundamentals of media relations from a journalist’s perspective. In 1998, she made the transition to PR and joined Major League Baseball, managing media relations and grassroots marketing for MLB International’s Toronto office. She also spent several years on the agency side as a lead executive for such premier sports and entertainment brands as the NBA, WNBA, The GRAMMY Awards and Black Entertainment Television (BET).
In 2005, she co-founded Comment Communications, a sports and entertainment PR firm servicing clients including SONY Pictures Home Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox/MGM, Toyota, Rock & Republic’s Rock Racing, USA Swimming, the Chicago 2016 Olympic Bid and the Memphis Grizzlies. She served as Chief Operating Officer, guiding strategy for the company’s key sports clients and establishing best practices that led the agency to consistent year over year growth.
Travis resides in Los Angeles with her husband and two children. She holds a BA in Journalism from the Carlton School of Journalism and Communications in Ottawa, Ontario.
